Expansion of HPV vaccination programme

29 September 2024 | Country Update

The Ministry of Health has decided to extend the age range for the free HPV vaccination programme. From 1 September 2024, the programme will cover children aged 9 to 14. Currently, free HPV vaccination is available to children aged 11 to 14 years in a two-dose schedule. To improve the effectiveness of the programme, it has been agreed to increase the availability of vaccination at the point of care and to simplify the programme implementation rules for providers. Two HPV vaccines are available free of charge under the programme:  Cervarix 2-valent vaccine and Gardasil 9 9-valent vaccine. For those born in 2010, vaccination must begin before the age of 14, but can be completed after the age of 14 (with a two-dose schedule). In addition, the Cervarix vaccine is available free of charge on a reimbursement basis for those aged 9 to 18 years and at a 50% reimbursement rate for adults.
